A WordPress theme is a set of files and images that are responsible for the appearance of your website. In this post we’ll look at how to install a theme in your WordPress site.

Themes can be acquired both commercially or free of charge. Free WordPress themes can be downloaded from the WordPress repository. If you need a theme that is more advanced or requires a specific feature, we recommend visiting the ThemeForest marketplace.

Once you’ve found the appropriate theme for your website, you need to upload it to your hosting account, where you have previously installed WordPress. Themes always come in zipped files. If the zipped theme files aren’t too big or the package doesn’t contain anything else, you can easily install it from your WordPress admin. Go to “Appearance” => “Themes” => “Add New” => “Upload a Theme” and browse for the downloaded zipped theme and click the “Install now” button. After this, all you need to do is activate the theme.

Some themes come with extensive features and options. It’s a good idea to go over each settings after activation. Premium themes always contain documentation that can help you setting up the theme.

If you are having trouble uploading your theme, you can manually upload the theme files and folders to your WordPress site. Upload the theme to your server using an FTP client.

Themes reside in a specific directory inside WordPress. Upload you main theme folder to the /wp-content/themes directory. Once all the files are uploaded, the new theme will appear in the Available Themes section, under your theme, click Activate.
